Festival of Careers 2025 – Year 9 & Year 10

Our Year 9 and Year 10 students recently took part in an exciting careers programme, beginning with individual guidance sessions in school and followed by a visit to the Festival of Careers at Lowestoft College. This combination of personalised support and real‑world exploration helped students begin thinking more confidently about their next steps.

Careers Guidance in School

Before the college trip, all Year 9 and Year 10 students met 1:1 with Kerry Bray, our careers advisor. These sessions gave students the chance to talk about what they enjoy, what motivates them, and what future pathways might suit them. Many students found this time helpful in thinking about college, apprenticeships, and life beyond school.

Our youngest class took part in a fun and engaging group session with Kerry, exploring “What careers animal are you?” Students enjoyed thinking about their strengths and attributes. It was a fun and exciting introduction to careers education for our younger students.

Festival of Careers at Lowestoft College

On Friday 20th March, our students attended the annual Festival of Careers at Lowestoft College. To ensure we could offer the highest level of support, Year 9 attended the morning session, while Year 10 attended in the afternoon.

The event brought together local and national employers, training providers, and college departments, giving students the chance to explore different industries and discover routes into work, apprenticeships, and further education. The hall was extremely busy, but our students managed this brilliantly — showing respectful behaviour, positive language, and maturity throughout.

Exploring College Life

As part of the visit for our year 10’s, students were given a tour of the college, including the Art department, the Food Hall, and the Wellbeing Service. This experience helped many students feel more comfortable about the idea of college. Several commented that seeing the environment first‑hand made them feel far less anxious about the future.

Looking Ahead

This year’s Festival of Careers has given our students a meaningful insight into the world beyond school. Whether they were speaking with employers, exploring college facilities, or reflecting on their strengths during their 1:1 sessions, every student gained something valuable from the experience.

We are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school and look forward to continuing to support them as they plan for their futures.

Championing Casey’s Journey in Athletics

At Community-Ed School, we believe that preparing students for their futures means recognising their passions and nurturing them wherever they shine — whether that’s in the classroom, in the community, or, in Casey’s case, on the athletics field.

This year, Casey has continued to impress us with his dedication to sport. His enthusiasm for athletics has grown enormously, and we have been proud to support him as he takes on new challenges and opportunities. On two separate Sundays, our staff accompanied Casey to local athletics competitions, giving him the chance to experience real events like long jump, javelin, shot put and relay. These were big steps for him — new environments, new people, and new expectations — and he rose to every challenge with determination and maturity.

Our commitment to supporting students beyond the school gates is rooted in a simple belief: when young people are encouraged to pursue what they love, they thrive. For Casey, these competitions have not only strengthened his athletic skills but also boosted his confidence, resilience and sense of achievement. Each event has helped him understand what he is capable of when he works hard and stays focused.

We have seen this confidence carry back into school life too. Casey continues to show improved engagement, positive behaviour and a growing pride in his own progress. He knows that his efforts in school open the door to opportunities like these — and he is seizing them.

We are incredibly proud of everything Casey has achieved so far, and we look forward to supporting him as he continues to develop his talent. Whether he’s sprinting down the relay track or taking flight in the long jump, Casey is proving that passion, perseverance and the right support can take you a long way.
