Festival of Careers 2025 – Year 9 & Year 10

Our Year 9 and Year 10 students recently took part in an exciting careers programme, beginning with individual guidance sessions in school and followed by a visit to the Festival of Careers at Lowestoft College. This combination of personalised support and real‑world exploration helped students begin thinking more confidently about their next steps.

Careers Guidance in School

Before the college trip, all Year 9 and Year 10 students met 1:1 with Kerry Bray, our careers advisor. These sessions gave students the chance to talk about what they enjoy, what motivates them, and what future pathways might suit them. Many students found this time helpful in thinking about college, apprenticeships, and life beyond school.

Our youngest class took part in a fun and engaging group session with Kerry, exploring “What careers animal are you?” Students enjoyed thinking about their strengths and attributes. It was a fun and exciting introduction to careers education for our younger students.

Festival of Careers at Lowestoft College

On Friday 20th March, our students attended the annual Festival of Careers at Lowestoft College. To ensure we could offer the highest level of support, Year 9 attended the morning session, while Year 10 attended in the afternoon.

The event brought together local and national employers, training providers, and college departments, giving students the chance to explore different industries and discover routes into work, apprenticeships, and further education. The hall was extremely busy, but our students managed this brilliantly — showing respectful behaviour, positive language, and maturity throughout.

Exploring College Life

As part of the visit for our year 10’s, students were given a tour of the college, including the Art department, the Food Hall, and the Wellbeing Service. This experience helped many students feel more comfortable about the idea of college. Several commented that seeing the environment first‑hand made them feel far less anxious about the future.

Looking Ahead

This year’s Festival of Careers has given our students a meaningful insight into the world beyond school. Whether they were speaking with employers, exploring college facilities, or reflecting on their strengths during their 1:1 sessions, every student gained something valuable from the experience.

We are incredibly proud of how well they represented our school and look forward to continuing to support them as they plan for their futures.
